Abstract

Coronado, Rod, et al., eds., Earth First! Journal 19, no. 6 (21 June 1999). Republished by the Environment & Society Portal, Multimedia Library. http://www.environmentandsociety.org/node/7046.

In this issue of Earth First! Journal Alan Featherstone gives an update on the protest of Australian activists against the logging of old growth in Karr, Anne Petermann discusses culture diversity and racism within the EF! movement, and Fernando Reals holds the US Navy responsible for eco-cide, imperialism, colonialism, and militarization in Puerto Rico.

"Lately, charges of racism have been leveled at the environmental movement. Rather than building bridges between our movement and the movements of people of color, walls such as cultural insensitivity and white supremacy are being constructed. Meanwhile, the destruction of the Earth accelerates, and worldwide, people of color continue to be exploited and killed outright in what Zapatista Subcommandante Marcos has termed the 'Fourth World War.'"

— Anne Petermann
