Davis, John, et al., eds., Earth First! 9, no. 7 (1 August 1989). Republished by the Environment & Society Portal, Multimedia Library. http://www.environmentandsociety.org/node/6912.
In this issue of Earth First! editor John Davis attempts to mediate between various local EF! groups who have differing ideas on activism within the Earth First! movement.
"Some radical environmentalists can’t howl. No matter how hard they try to imitate howling Gray Wolves, their vocal chords allow nothing more convincing than the sound of whimpering Coyotes. Analogously, some radicals prefer sitting in a quiet circle discussing wildlife sightings to chanting “DRUNK AND IGNORANT” around a campfire. Does this disqualify them as Earth First!ers? Of course not."
— John Davis
In addition, Michele Miller reports about the Ancient Forest Rescue Expedition’s positive impact on moving old growth up on the national agenda; Patrick Anderson contributes with a critical article regarding western NGO campaigns’ poor attempts to save the rainforests; and the editors put focus on the concept of sustainable development.
